Ear Wax Removal

Ear wax removal is important for your wellbeing. It helps prevent infections and keeps your hearing sharp.

Plus, when we clear out your ear wax, we can also check for any other issues that might need attention.

About Earwax

Earwax, also known as cerumen, is a natural secretion in the ear. It serves to protect the skin of the ear canal, aid in cleaning and lubrication, and offer some defense against bacteria, fungi, insects, and water. The ear canal has its own self-cleaning mechanism where the skin lining naturally migrates from the center of the eardrum to the outer ear, carrying wax and any collected debris along with it. Factors such as age, diet, lifestyle, genetics, and ethnicity can influence the amount of wax produced and retained.

Earwax can cause discomfort or hearing issues when it becomes impacted in the ear canal. The use of cotton buds, in-ear headphones, and earplugs can contribute to this issue. Additionally, dry skin or narrow/distorted ear canals can lead to wax impaction.

Our qualified audiologists, who have undergone accredited microsuction training and are registered members of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and fellows of the British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists (BSHAA), conduct wax removal procedures.

During your appointment, our audiologists will conduct a full ear inspection displayed on a screen. They will then discuss the best method of wax removal for you and proceed to remove any wax or debris present.
